Great Eccleston Tractor Pull

Date: 31/08/11

Gt Eccleston Show Ground

The Gt Eccleston Showground welcomed some of the biggest, loudest and most powerful engines in the world last weekend, roaring into action for the Tractor Pulling Championships.

Fans of epic noise, gigantic machines, precision engineering and stiff competition were out in their numbers, to take a look at what is one of the biggest events of the tractor pulling calendar.

Competitors from Europe, America and the UK, were there to battle it out for glory over 9 divisions. What's the expression? Some's were bigger than others.

Chairman of the North West Tractor Pullers, John Eccles was once again in attendance, along with his very own speed machine, 'Simply Red', complete with a brand new engine.

Looking to the Future:

John was keen to use this year's event to launch a new initiative for the North West Tractor Pullers. Acquiring a 350kg Garden class tractor, he plans to offer an opportunity for young people to get involved with his team and get some hands on engineering experience.

''We've bought a Garden modified & we're going to start an academy.

We'll pick a couple of young lads to work on it and allow them to drive it in competition. Hopefully it will encourage younger people to come into the sport''
